Currently Craving: Fall

Welcome to the first of a new recurring post: Currently Craving! I thought this would be a good place for me to keep track of the gorgeous things I find around the internet, as well as a way for me to slip in some of the tips/tricks I've learned along the way.

Today's focus: fall. This time of year always makes me think of two things—new clothes and school supplies. Since this is the first fall that I'm not in school, I was going into a little bit of a withdrawal, until I found the grown-up version: office accessories! Here are a few chic statements to spruce up your wardrobe and your desk.

One of the perks of living in Texas has been the wonderfully warm climate; however, this also means that it is mid October and very few of my autumn clothes have been out to play! So how do you get the look and feel of a fall outfit without suffering a heat stroke? Here are a few tips:

  • Breezy Fabrics! So many of the fall looks and trends involve longer hemlines and lots of layers. An easy way to get this look without all the bulk is to wear pieces that are light and airy! Opt for lightweight cottons, linens, or sheer fabrics over heavier materials like wool and leather. When it comes to sweaters, choose larger, more open weaves that allow for some breathing.
  • Long & Short If it's the long-sleeved look you're after, balance it out with a shorter hem. Keeping it cool on the bottom helps to balance out a more covered-up top.
  • Color & Pattern This is the simplest trick for getting a fall  look without taking the heat! Choose pieces in darker, autumn-inspired hues, like deep orange, burgundy, and emerald. Also mix in some conventional fall prints, such as plaid, to give your look a cold-weather feel. A short-sleeved top in a deep pumpkin color or dark plaid looks a lot more "fall" than one in light pink, yet it's just as lightweight!
